Smith County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Eugenio Gonzalez-Hernandez of Tyler for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at a residence on County Road 326 in Tyler, said spokesman Larry Christian.
At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 23, deputies responded to the scene and were told Gonzalez-Hernandez had allegedly perpetrated the assault.
During the initial course of this investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause to indicate that Eugenio did sexually assault the child victim.
County investigators also responded to the scene which ultimately resulted in further interviewing of the suspect.
After obtaining additional information, Smith County Investigators prepared an arrest and search affidavit.
These were presented to the 114th State Judicial District Judge Austin Reeve Jackson who then issued an arrest warrant for Gonzalez-Hernandez for the criminal offense of Sexual Assault of a Child with a bond set at $750,000.
Judge Jackson also issued a search warrant allowing Investigators and the Crime Scene Unit to gather additional physical evidence at the crime scene. Gozalez-Hernandez was ultimately booked into the Smith County Jail for the listed offense.
Smith County Investigators facilitated a forensic interview with the seven-year-old victim by professionals with the Children’s Advocacy Center in Tyler. This ultimately assures that the child will receive the appropriate physical and mental assistance to help her get through this traumatic event.
