Three suspects in Monday’s high-speed chase arrested

Three suspects were taken into custody Monday morning by Smith County Sheriff’s Office deputies following a high-speed chase – including shots being fired at pursuing deputies — which resulted in a rollover crash in Van Zandt County, said spokesman Larry Christian.
The chase began in Harrison County when the suspects were fleeing Mississippi in what was believed to be a stolen vehicle.
The suspects opened fire on deputies when they exited Interstate 20 onto Jim Hogg Road before returning to I-20 and speeding toward Van Zandt County. It was here the suspects tried to exit the interstate again, which resulted in the rollover crash, Christian said.
At approximately 9 a.m., Smith County law enforcement, which included the Precinct 5 Constable’s Office and the Lindale Police Department, picked up the chase from Gregg County.
Following the crash, the driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries and the other two were detained at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured, Christian said.
Other agencies assisting in the investigation include Texas Department of Public Safety and the Van Police Department, Christian said.
