Smith County Students to Compete in 14 th Annual Smith County Youth Expo Wednesday thru Friday

The 14 th Annual Smith County Youth Expo (SCYE) will be held this week at the Bullard ISD Agriculture Facility and will feature students from across Smith County as they exhibit their livestock and ag mechanics projects. The SCYE  started on Wednesday with the Market Broiler Show and will conclude on Friday, February 12th with the Sale of Champions.

The Smith County Youth Expo is an annual event where local FFA students and 4-H members showcase their market steers, barrows, lambs, goats, broilers, rabbits and ag mechanics projects in hopes of making the Sale of Champions on Friday, February 12 th at 2:00pm. They are also competing for numerous other awards throughout the week in the Open Ag Mechanics Show, Open Heifer Show, and the Livestock Judging contest.

Karlie Lowe, a Senior from Bullard ISD and SCYE participant, recently shared that many of these young people have been preparing for this week since last year. Whether raising livestock or building an agriculture mechanics project – many hours of work have gone into these students’ projects. She also stated that, “Character traits such as leadership, hard work, time management, and dedication have been built by the daily responsibilities required to raise a livestock project or build something with your hands.”

In addition to the Sale of Champions that provides exhibitors with the necessary funds to pay for their future projects and help with college education expenses, the show also provides the opportunity for graduating seniors to apply for scholarships. Since the show’s inception in 2008, over 100 scholarships have been awarded to deserving graduating seniors.

Area supporters are welcome to come watch the show in person but are asked to follow all posted COVID-19 guidelines and practice social distancing. Additionally, the show will be broadcast live each day and the information to view the show will be posted on the SCYE web site ( ). Persons and businesses wishing to monetarily support these students’ efforts may attend the Sale of Champions on Friday, February 12 th , at 2:00pm in person or join online.
