Smith County Peace Officers Association receives $44K in contributions

During their monthly luncheon on Aug. 14, the Smith County Peace Officers Association learned they would be receiving more than $44,000 in contributions to renovate their training center. The funding and in-kind donations will be provided through the collaborative efforts of Brookshire Grocery Co., East Texas Alarm Inc., Ford Power Washing, Pro Electric and Watson Painting.

Brookshire’s FRESH 15 race designated more than $13,000 to pay off a loan the Peace Officers secured through Prosperity Bank for a new air conditioning system. East Texas Alarm Inc., Ford Power Washing, Pro Electric and Watson Painting committed to providing labor and/or materials valued at over $31,000 to support the renovation project. When completed, updates will include new paint, interior and exterior LED lighting, interior and exterior fans, along with power washing to refresh the building’s exterior. A new alarm system and Wi-Fi will also be provided.

“On behalf of the Smith County Peace Officers Association, I would like to express our extreme gratitude to Brookshire’s and all businesses who provided donations,” said Jeff McClenny, Smith County Constable for Precinct 5 and President of the Peace Officers Association. “This association cannot function and provide a facility for training without the help from business leaders throughout the community. The impact of these donations is far greater than financial.”

“We are very fortunate to have such incredible public servants in Smith County,” said Trent Brookshire, Chief Operating Officer for Brookshire Grocery Co., who spoke at the event. “These donations are all about expressing gratitude for everything they do to protect and serve our communities. Our company is proud to partner with the Peace Officers Association and to help fulfill their vision by providing a modernized facility for fellowship and training.”

The meal on Wednesday was provided by FRESH by Brookshire’s, with the company’s BGC Racing Team serving those in attendance.
